Mirek Olšák: Hi, I am the author of FF Clone. I found this page and the advice about not using really suprised me. What do you mean by "non-free"?? Program released with the source code without restrictions? Although I haven't mentioned an attempt of contacting me I advise to USE it ;-)
- Hi Mirek.
- Firstly, I would like to appologize for not contacting you before. There were many other tasks on my todo list, and I completely forgot about this (thank you for taking the time, and reminding me). The original problem was that the FF Clone source code doesn't contained any licensing information, and I was (for some reason) unable to find it on your website, althrough this information was stated on the FAQ page (and is now in the tarball too).
- As for your question, what does "non-free" stand for, this means software, that does not respect the users essential freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software (this also contains software with no stated license). Since your code is under the older GPLv2 license, I recommend you to upgrade to the latest GPLv3 version, which is well suited against today's threats, and better protects your work (the benefits are described here, and here). I also recommend you to read this article, that will help you in choosing the right free software license.
- On a sidenote, I wanna congratulate you for this great game, that genuinely captures what's great about the original Fish Fillets. It's really challenging :^)
- I wish you happy holidays, and all the best in the upcoming New Year 2014.
- Yours sincerely,
